We are excited to announce that Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) 2023 will be taking place on November 25th at the Porter Hangar at Pearson International Airport.
Due to complications with the previous venue, the event that was originally supposed to be held on September 23 had to be postponed. We are thrilled that this event is still able to run this year. We are so thankful to Porter for providing us with the space to be able to give girls the opportunity to learn all about the wonderful world of aviation.
If you haven't heard about GIAD, it is a yearly event that happens all across the world and is put on by volunteers of Women in Aviation International (WAI). The event promotes various career paths and recreational pursuits within aviation to girls and young women. Attendees learn about aviation and aerospace through hands-on activities, talking to women in various STEM fields, and receiving postsecondary and career advice. In each booth, the girls will learn about the different career paths through crafts and activities.
Every child who participates receives a backpack full of donated swag, take-home activities, a certificate, and an activity passport. Children in scouts or guides also receive a patch for the campfire blankets or camp hats. All ages are welcome but activities are geared towards 6-16.
